Every year we need a forest the size of Wales to provide all the paper used in Britain

What's the problem?

It's often cheaper and more convenient to throw away something old and buy a replacement than to repair, reuse or recycle what you've already got. Whether it’s food, electrical equipment, carrier bags or unwanted clothing, we're dumping far more than we should - the UK dumps more household waste into landfill than any other country in the European Union, and a large proportion of this is thrown away unnecessarily.

So What Are We Doing?

We're working hard to reduce the amount of waste we produce as a company. We encourage a paperless office to keep waste to a minimum and you will probably have seen the recycling boxes in and around the office. All of our PCs and company mobile phones are now recycled for local charities. So, not only are we helping the environment but we are also benefiting others.

And What Can You Do?

A bit of careful planning can make a big difference. On average we throw away a third of the food we buy – what a waste! So plan a menu for the days ahead, make shopping lists and use leftovers wisely. Take a canvas bag to the supermarket instead of using plastic ones and look for the 'recycle' symbol on packaging. Before you throw anything away, ask yourself if it could be fixed, used for another purpose or if anyone else would like it.

  • 18 people have pledged to unplug thier phone charger, once it has charged. After a year, we will have saved enough energy to boil 1026 kettles!
  • 15 people pledged to use a mug instead of a plastic cup. In one year, we will have saved plastic, equivalent in weight to 195 bags of sugar going to landfill!
  • 11 have pledged to replace one light bulb with an energy saving bulb. After one year, we will have saved enough energy to light 330000 average homes!
